FOAMGLAS® Insulation Solutions by Application
Cryogenic

FOAMGLAS
® Insulation is used most frequently in applications with operating temperatures below ambient, cold process and cryogenic applications that require precise temperature control. Insulation must maintain its insulating value indefinitely, so temperatures remain where the process design dictates.
In a cryogenic process, the margin for error is even smaller. If moisture enters the insulation system on a cryogenic application, thermal efficiency is severely compromised. The effects are multiple: operating costs increase, and process control and product quality decrease. Wet insulation in cryogenic applications builds to a state of permanent liquid saturation or ice accumulation.
Cryogenic applications typically involve process piping, tanks, vessels and equipment which are most commonly used by the gas processing, refining/petrochemical, and specialty chemical industries. This includes ethylene, glycol brine systems, refrigerants, LNG, LOX and L N2.
Cryogenic applications also present an additional challenge in that many of the products contained within the insulated system are highly combustible, if not maintained in proper conditions.
For cryogenic applications, FOAMGLAS
® cellular glass insulation is the only choice. FOAMGLAS
® Insulation is 100% glass and impermeable to moisture in any form. Because it is a glass, it cannot burn and is noncombustible.
