Challenges/Characteristics

Chemical durability

Chemical absorption can not only mechanically destroy insulation and its thermal performance, but can also increase fire risk and lead to structural corrosion of pipelines and equipment. This potential for chemical attack comes both externally (from the atmosphere and spillage) and internally (from the system being insulated, itself, by way of leaks at joints, valves or flanges).
